What Is Prophetic Art?
Prophetic art is a communication from Heaven expressed through creativity.
The way we were taught to understand prophecy was through the ABCD:
A — Always
B — Builds up
C — Encourages
D — Draws us nearer to Jesus
Prophetic art should do the same.
It isn't simply about creating something beautiful. It is about allowing what we see, sense, or encounter in the presence of God to become visible in a way that can speak to others.
Sometimes we paint during a worship service. As the worship rises and we become aware of God's presence, we may begin to see an image, a picture, a colour, a movement, or a scene. The painting becomes a way of communicating that impression.
We paint what we see.
There is something powerful about this because not everyone sees what an artist sees.
How else might someone know what Heaven looks like unless someone is willing to show them?
The prophetic artist becomes, in a sense, a window — not drawing attention to themselves, but giving people a glimpse of what they are encountering in the presence of God.
But the purpose isn't simply to show people something interesting or mysterious.
The question is always:
Does it build up?
Does it encourage?
Does it draw people closer to Jesus?
If the answer is yes, then the art can become an invitation.
An invitation to see.
An invitation to encounter.
An invitation to worship.
An invitation to come closer to Jesus.
Prophetic art doesn't replace Scripture, and it doesn't add to Scripture. Rather, it can help illustrate, illuminate, and communicate something that points us back to what God has already revealed.
The artist is not the source.
Jesus is the Source.
We simply become willing vessels — listening, watching, creating, and making visible what we believe we have been shown.
And sometimes a painting can say what words cannot.
A colour can communicate something.
A movement can communicate something.
A landscape can communicate something.
Water can communicate something.
A picture can create a moment where someone stops, looks, and suddenly recognises something about God.
That is the heart of prophetic art:
Seeing what Heaven is showing, and creating a doorway for others to encounter the One who is there.

I will be painting at David’s Tent 2026, a gathering centred around simply worshipping Jesus.
David’s Tent is a place where worship takes many forms — through music, prayer, creativity, community and the arts. This year, I’m excited to take part in “Worship Through Art,” creating paintings as I respond to what God is doing and expressing through colour, movement and creativity what I encounter in the moment.
